Ravensworn is set against the backdrop of a dying belle-èpoque steampunk world, one where an airborne Anomaly halved the population before mysteriously falling dormant. Now a newly discovered form of rarified-air known as æther is valued above all else as both a commodity and fuel source.

Forty years after it fell dormant, signs of the Anomaly's reemergence began to appear, prompting the historically hostile countries of Angevaine and Navasturia to form an uneasy alliance and jointly develop a last-ditch effort against extinction: Project Hypérion.

Spearheaded by three founders—visionary architect Fréderic Augustin, his sister Annette, and her husband Dante—Hypérion was a ten year marvel of architecture and engineering only made possible by the discovery of rarified air and the advent of æther-engines to harness it.
